Windows CD KEY has many version type there are :
- OEM = Which are usually sold with the computer
- Retail = Brought stand alone in stores like BestBuy, CompUSA etc..
- Upgrade = To upgrade from a previous operating system
- Branded = Specifically branded copies from large computer manufacturers like Dell
- Action pack = Was part of the Microsoft Action Pack
- Volume License = Typically used in large businesses, government and educational institutions

People build there own Computers. Almost they use the OEM version or the Retail Version.

Here difference between Windows OEM Version and Windows Retail Version :
1. OEM has little to no support, can only be used with one computer, and OEM is cheaper, but the licence is only valid on the computer your originally install it on..

2. Retail has full support, can be used with more than one computer, but costs a lot more or Expensive price.
